page 4 - Torun

Shopping mall in Torun.  This nicely preserved, old fortified city is located by the Vistula - probably the most important water route in Poland..   It has nice pedestrian shopping malls like you see here.  A good place to hunt for bargains if you are used to Western European prices.  For instance you could buy a music CD for 10 'new' zloties. (5 DM / $2.50).  Perfume costs about 1/2 the price in Germany.  I made sure I bought lots of that to give to the homeless people in Frankfurt.  That way the telephone booths should smell better.  If you don't know what a public telephone booth in Germany smells like, you need to come here and try them out.  They are really something else.  BUT: they almost all work, and they have booths..  You can't say the same for the States.
The 'leaning tower of Torun'.  I don't know much about this place, since I couldn't read the signs, and only could communicate in most basic terms with my relatives.  They told me if you stood too close to the tower, it might fall over and crush you.  That's why we had the picture here taken at a safe distance.  As you can see there are some other dumb tourists ignoring this warning and standing directly under the tower.  I'm sure something bad happened to them soon afterwards.

To my left is Daniel.  I finally got him in a picture, too.
